Credibility for Holistic Practioners and Intuitives
Published: Issues Magazine (June 2007)
Believe it or not, holistic healers, psychic intuitives and esoteric
educators once held the respect and reverence of the masses. The
soothsayers of Mesopotamia, the Oracle at Delphi and the Aboriginal
Medicine Man all held honourable positions in their communities.
Things went terribly wrong during the advent of enforced religion and
we lost many amazing and beneficial modalities mainly due to fear of
the unknown.
It’s been a long, slow journey, yet those scorned upon practices are
making an earnest recovery. Thanks to Eastern philosophies and ancient
healing practices that were fortunate enough to avoid the Dark Ages in
the Western world, Holistic Practioners hand a foot-hold with which to
begin the adventure back into the mainstream.
Why are holistic and intuitive practices coming back? Because they
have stood the test of time... and they work. Even Quantum Physics
strongly indicates that there is something to these mysteries after
all. As human beings, we tend to dismiss quickly things that don’t
work or become out-dated. Remember 8-track tapes? Beta vs. VHS? Phones
with a rotating dial? If there is an easier and more effective way of
doing things, we move on, leaving the out-moded and less effective
tools behind. Yet modalities from Acupressure, Tarot, Aromatherapy,
Palmistry, Herbology… even healing prayer are still in use today.
Because they work!
The pendulum is swinging back as Western medicine combines practice
with alternative therapies. As more and more people seek out Holistic
Practioners to provide assistance, guidance and spiritual healing in
their lives it is not surprising to see the emergence of organizations
like the Association of Holistic Practioners. This association acts as
a resource for clients looking for services as well as provides
credibility for Practioners who offer their skills. Becoming a member
of the Association of Holistic Practitioners is an inexpensive and
valuable resource. Their mission is to serve and unite Holistic
Practitioners in the fields of alternative healing, personal
development and intuitive consulting. And it’s just the beginning. Ten
years ago, it would have been difficult to find an Acupuncturist, let
alone a Feng Shui Consultant in our Western Culture. Imagine ten years
from now!
